Is there such a thing I wonder?
Our lives revolve around our children, our Nursery and our property.
Doesn't leave a lot for ourselves somedays.
We manage, scraping time with those we love where we can, sending meme bombs to those we can't, getting the groceries at 7:30 - 8 am on a Saturday to get just one darn sleep in per week.
I love to relax by gardening, in the orchards, in the vegetable plot and around the masses of trees we have here.
I preserve fruit and vegetables, make my own stocks, make soups, breads, bake every week.
I also make my own face scrubs, moisturisers, soaps, laundry powders and other items.
I read in the bath, who has time otherwise?
I tend to listen to other homesteaders and glean ideas from other perspectives.
I dream up our way forward, stumbling sometimes off the path and meandering my way back to where I was headed.
I make up silly Haikus daily, just to keep myself thinking, todays was about the wind and cold, which I dreamed up as the Magnolia blooms rained down upon my upturned face:
I just wish Winter
Would leave as drastically
As the blossoms do.
Anyway, I have been squeezing in some rendering of beef tallow for future balms, soaps and cooking pleasures.
Here's a look at what I have been doing:
From fat to rendered tallow, little bit smelly, lot of cleaning however, you end up with a lovely product no money could buy to either cook potatoes, beef, eggs in or to turn into something altogether lovely.
I do both.
Until next time Ka kite ano.
