Te Kahuri Nurseries was established in 1988, and specialises in producing a wide variety of hardy plants suitable for landscaping farms, gardens and orchards.
We are a family run business and here is a little information on our family. In 2022 the Oxenham family took over the business. Rachelle had worked at Te Kahuri on & off since 2000, she also was a Learning Assistant, a beekeeper and got into self sufficiancy around the house and all things garden related in that time. Nicholas was in Management roles in retail and in the recruitment sector, did a small stint at Silver Fern Farms and as a Farm Hand. We also have some of our children working here alongside us.

Kahuri is a Maori word for 'sapling' or young tree, so 'Te Kahuri' translates as 'The Sapling'.
We are situated 7kms west of Eltham, at Mangatoki, between Eltham and Kaponga in South Taranaki, where the mountain dominates our landscape and weather. From our beginnings propagating shelter plants and providing planting services locally, the business has developed over the years, to include riparian plantings all around Taranaki and also mail order plant sales around New Zealand. We have expertise in a broad range of local complimentary services. Our stock range has increased considerably to include many varieties to suit all situations.

Unlike a lot of nurseries we have plenty of grass and weeds growing around the place, all of which contribute to our fabulous organic compost mounds. We hand weed our many open ground rows, the chickens and turkeys assist in this practice as well as insect control thus ensuring our soil is free from poisons and that we are growing safe and clean food plants for our customers. Eftpos facilities available. No credit cards, however we do accept cash.
